LESLIE, INC
A while back in my Leadership Management class at LaSalle University, I had to do a class project that was really different than anything I have ever done before. We had to develop a business plan that showcased who we, the students, were. It was like YOUR NAME HERE, INC. In my case it was Leslie, INC. We had to come up with our own market, who we would be working for, who our peer group was, how out families played into it. We discussed how we best communicate, and how we best learn. We discussed our values, our missions in life or the next 5 years. To keep it short, this was a really impressive experiment. Most of the students never thought of themselves as a product or a service provider. Now, that was two years ago. Today, I revisited this ideology. I am still Leslie, Inc. My product may not be fully developed, as far as expertise in my chosen area, but I am getting there. My 9-to-5 becomes my field work. My school work becomes R&D. My friends and family are my board, and my peers are both competition and my allies in an effort to be better and better as time goes on.
Now I need to determine the next steps in the development of my "corporation". My five year plan consists of the following key measures:
1. Location, location, location- Within the next year, I would like to relocate the the Dallas/Fort Worth area where I will pursue career opportunities in an area that is hub to numerous Fortune 500 corporations. Also this is an area that is closer to my family so this will be a long-term transition.
2. Improve R&D- I plan on transferring to the University of Dallas in order to complete my MBA studies as well as
integrate myself into the DFW workforce.
3. Develop my 30 second elevator speech and develop my networking skills.- I enjoy opportunities to meet new people and experience new things, so instead of using these opportunities for mainly social gatherings, but I will develop the know-how to exert more control in these events.
4. Continue to learn- I will complement my MBA education by continuing to improve my understanding of business through through the books I read such as The Art of The Start and the Balanced Scorecard. I have already begun reading books on the 100 Best Business Books of All Time list, and I believe that seeds of wisdom have planted themselves ready to be called upon when needed.
So, there are but a few objectives that I have set up for myself. The journey of life is complex and fascinating, but we just have to have the right perspective.

Marketing Camp
This past weekend, I attended Marketing Camp Philly. It was a really interesting, and free, event at the University of the Arts. There were many different sessions and they all seemed to be really fascinating.. Marketing is so involved and creative, I would love an opportunity to explore this industry. The sessions I attended were:
Narratives in digital media conducted by Michael Leis- I learned about the linearity of a story and the circularity of a story and how a consumer becomes involved in a story which the peaks their interest in a product or company. With marketing, we will use various forms of marketing to tell the story of the product. The example involves the Palm Claus campaign.
Steve Red was the keynote speaker who discussed the differences between AdLand and ConsumerLand. Consumer Land seems to be the marketing canvas of the future.
All in all the day was great, and I learned a lot. On my path to MBA, I believe this was a great time investment.
